To me - ex-cello player with 15 years of professional experience - cello is the most amazing instrument. from a certain point of view I consider it to follow Linux/OpenSource principles since it's capable of playing virtually anything - just check on youtube! Also it's free (open, not free of charge to get) and simply of a beautifull. I used to play a lot of stuff incl. few pieces of Apocalyptica, film music i.e. Mission Impossible, Europe - The Final Countdown, etc.

Not easy to learn to play from scratch as it requires getting used to - just like switching to Linux.

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed that. I have enjoyed listening to cello music in the past. Though I must admit to owning only 2 Yo Yo Ma discs. I recall seeing a video or two with him and Jake Shimabukuro - very nice. I think it may be on the "Songs of Joy and Peace" album.
