New Linux Mint distributions freeze on my computer

Post by eleinor »

I've just installed LMDE 201012. Before this, I used mint 9 x64 without any error. My greatest problem is, that all new Linux Mint distributions freeze on my computer. I have problem with the following versions:
Mint 10 x86,
Mint 10 x64,
LMDE 201009 x86
LMDE 201012 x86,
LMDE 201012 x64.

Once it froze while working on livecd to start install. I have no idea what is wrong. In my opinion my computer has no problem, memtest86 gone for a half day without error, I've tried another HDD. The other OS (Windows 7 x64) working without any error for 10 months.

Any idea? What should I look for in the log files? Which log files?

Other problems: While working (before freeze), pidgin crashed with segmentation fault frequently. A cannot install fpc package, there are dependence errors with some packages.

There must be something common to your freeze problem for so many version Mint 10 (32-, 64-), LMDE 9 ( 32-), LMDE 12 ( 32-, 64-)

While it is hard to guess from reading your post, prime suspect is the graphic, however the Mint10 and LMDE 9 are using the same kernel 2.6.32.xx.
May be you can list your hardware and check if any issue on either graphic card or other special hardware that does not work well with kernel.

These results are not from installed LMDE only from livedvd. It's frozen with livedvd too 5 minutes ago...

I dont see an issue off hand at the moment. I looked at your tv tuner card and its not on the list of being capable but that does not mean its not. Hopefully someone can see something I am not but I will keep looking :D

I'll try it without the TV tuner, I don't use it anyway, and waiting for some other ideas. Thanks :)

I don't have any problem with the boot process, and as I read that thread is about boot error, but Ill look after it.

But, I've found something in the Xorg.0.log on the installed LMDE:

SELinux: Disabled on system, not enabling in X server
(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
(II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
(EE) GLX: could not load software renderer
(II) GLX: no usable GL providers found for screen 0

That may be an error which could result a freeze?
------------------

As I read in other pages, these are not the things I'm looking for, these couldn't result a freeze.
