Desktop "right-click" Menu XFCE only?

XFCE user (Ellyssa for 512mb, Gloria for 2g). Over the course of time I've become very attached to the customizable menu that is available via a right-click on the desktop (see screenshot). Since I updated from Gloria to Isadora (Gnome), I've been at a loss to find a Desktop Preferences menu option. Is it me - or is the right-click menu only available in XFCE? - Thanks

I don't think it has been available in Gnome for quite some time.

In Xfce and Lxde menus have been made as difficult to configure as they can possibly make them (thanks to xml), which is why I use Fluxbox.

If you want to right click your desktop for a properly user configurable menu then that is what you want to be running.

You will need to edit text files though (there is a sort of gui option but it is not as easy as editing the text).

If you want a right click on the desktop menu you need either Xfce, LXDE, or a window manager i.e. Fluxbox, Openbox and many others less well known.

E17 has a left click desktop menu comparable, but, Mint does not use that desktop.

Now that I've switched to Isadora XFCE, is it possible to remove the intermediate menu that shows up after I right-click? I prefer to open the application menu directly. Furthermore, is it possible to customize the application menu (like Elyssa, Gloria etc)? If the solution involves editing text files, please add details. Unfortunately, my knowledge is unusually shabby in that area. Thanks...

It will not require editing text files
In settings > desktop first make sure Show applications menu on desktop right click is marked
then in icons change it to none ((you may need to change it to something else and to none again, a minor bug)
