No 3D rendering for Intel 865g under LMDE (SOLVED)
Hi there, I just made my switch LMDE. And I've noticed Compiz not working, exhausted all the soultions on the forum. I'm using an old intel gpu (865g) which has worked great under Ubuntu Maverick and Mint Julia with 3d Acceleration till now.
Here is what I get when I glxinfo |grep -i "render" under maverick/julia:
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 865G GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT x86/MMX/SSE2
But under LMDE I get:
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
I the loss of 3d acceleration is having an impact on me.
My Xorg.conf is empty i tried fiddling (not properly though) with it with no success.I even tried reinstalling mesa, no good.
Can someone help me with this? Should I get ubuntu universe packages and try them here, will it break anything?

Re: No 3D rendering for Intel 865g under LMDE
My mom has that video chipset in her Dell B110. It runs Debian Lenny flawlessly. I only had to make one little tweak back then by adding the XAA option to the xorg.conf. I have not done anything else to Lenny lately, but with Squeeze going stable this weekend, I have already done some testing. The 865g chip has great video playback, but games such as SuperTuxKart and Extreme Tux Racer are horribly choppy and unplayable. So, yeah, I am working on that. I have tried Ubuntu 10.10, Mint 10, LMDE, and Debian Squeeze on there. I have not found the perfect tweak as yet. You are not alone with this issue.

I've was mad at the community for not answering my post, took a few days to realize that i shouldn't be so childish and selfish to expect people to help me,people here are doing a voluntary service during their free time, they don't really have to be here to help out noobs, but their good-hearted enough to do so. I feel bad about myself.
I've already found a work around, but my studies kept me busy, from posting it here, I got enlighted after read the intel manual on this site: http://alcor.concordia.ca/manpages/sys4/intel.4.html
go through it and you'll find what you want.

Re: No 3D rendering for Intel 865g under LMDE (Solved on my
since the day I installed lmde on my machine,I suffered with the absence of 3d rendering,I could've switch back to my old distro (ubuntu maverick) but i just didn't want to give up without a fight,in the end i'm 'victouriously' running compiz and some 3d games on my crappy intel gpu.
I'm just a persistant bastard who lacks faith :p

I'm glad you have gotten it figured out. Thanks for the link, I'm sure other people will appreciate it as well.

First of all, congratulations by your willpower.Pranaone wrote:Hi there, I just made my switch LMDE.
I'm facing the same problem. My driver is "VIA Chrome 9 HC IGP". It worked perfectly under Ubuntu/Linux Mint 9 but it didn't seem to be supported by LMDE.
I went to the site of my motherboard manufacturer and didn't found it compatible with LMDE. Just compatible with Suse, legacy and Ubuntu.
http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action
You did the same thing (I mean, you looked at you manufacturer site)? Or you did it manually?
If at least I found the source of my first installation tutorial, but this time google history wasn't enabled and I didn't remember the keywords I used to find it.
Every time I look at a example of how configurate xconf. I lost by laziness.

Pranaone,
What were the exact parameters you found to work best? I have tried different combinations, but have yet achieved the desired result.

o_unico,
I feel your pain with Chrome9. However, as a consolation, we have flawless 2D video.

Actually i got it to work, by trial and error. Mostly desperation made me do silly things that i rather not reveal, cause it may set a bad example for new comers.
Anyways; under xorg.conf after i enabled option 'Legacy3D' i got back my 3d acceleration.
Didnt bother adding dri/glx because they load automatically.

Your Video card is the same? I read in Portuguese a tutorial to install this video card on ubuntu (http://www.vivaolinux.com.br/dica/Via-v ... do-e-facil) and some point it says to search for the linerivenathos wrote:o_unico,

This site even tell us how to install it on Squeeze.
It could work? I didn't try yet.
Last time I read about Ubuntu be based on Debian and I thought it might work to me. But after restarting my screen become black and I had to reinstall LMDE. And without a backup.
Re: No 3D rendering for Intel 865g under LMDE (SOLVED)
o_unico thanks for sharing that nice piece of information, some of my friend also have that card.

Re: No 3D rendering for Intel 865g under LMDE (SOLVED)
unfortunately, it didn't work for them. The really annoying thing is that their cards work flawlessly under ubuntu, but i can't find out what component/driver make it work, even glxinfo didn't show any driver loaded.

This is was my reply:hello friend, I don't think you'll remember me. But we had a discussion
about enabling 3d under LMDE for old graphics card, some time back. I
remember you said that you also didn't have usable 3d on your chrome card.
Well i have found some modified drivers for chrome and intel cards from the
ubuntu dev site. If you want i can mail them to you. Its experimental so
it may or may not work. Let me know if your interested.
Please update your contact forms in this forum.Yes, of course I remember. How are you? I hope you're fine.
Please, I want to try this modified drivers. I'm really interested.
At the moment I'm using a Opensource driver (I can't remember the name, isn't all good but I can play PS1 games with it).
