Unable to open encrypted partition in LMDE LiveCD mode

I had an encrypted (LUKS) partition and noticed that in LiveCD mode

Linux Mint 10 is able to open the partition, just click and enter the passphrase.

However In LMDE, I install cryptsetup and still unable to open the partition after entering the passphrase, error message as below

Error unlocking device: cryptsetup exited with exit code 234: /proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver.
Cannot initialize device-mapper. Is dm_mod kernel module loaded?

Any idea?
