Hi all!
After installing Mint 11 I'm having a performance problem with Compiz - its very slow and choppy. For example, when I enable wobbly windows, and when I move windows they just draw in front of my gamma saturated eyes . Now, a bunch of facts:
=>Proprietary drivers are installed for ATI Mobility Radeon 3400 HD
=>In Mint 10 compiz worked smooth and without any problems out of the box
=>nomodeset kernel option us used to bootup my system - without it even Live CD didn't boot (Mint 10 worked without it)
=>My system and hardware specification can be found in my signature
=>Mint 11 and Compiz works flawless on my brother's machine - installed from the same medium - a USB key (nVidia GT9600, proprietary drivers enabled)
Did anyone managed to solve this issue in computer environment similar/equal to mine
In case of questions I'm opened for business
Any help/workaround will be much appreciated (and I'm sure not only by me )
Greetz

Re: Mint 11 Compiz performance issue
Read other posts about Compiz... There is some problems with the new version of it.
In one post there is a how-to to downgrade to a earlier version of Compiz.

Re: Mint 11 Compiz performance issue
I've already read other posts about newest Compiz version - before I take the step of downgrading (Compiz or Mint) I would really like to know if anyone did find another workaround.
Look, the same system works flawlessly on my brothers machine (specs in 1st post), so it must have something to do with ATI driver and this necessary parameter nomodeset, without which I couldn't even boot the Live CD
Any solutions/ideas

Re: Mint 11 Compiz performance issue
Gofer83...
I don't think compiz works as flawlessly as you think on other systems.
i've now tried on 3 different systems and all 3 take a performance hit.
Downgraded to compiz 0.86, using the how to here:
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/how-to-d ... 86-in.html
and everything is well again.

Re: Mint 11 Compiz performance issue
I uninstalled it. Don't need all the effects. Just want speed and productivity lol
