HP dv5 Wireless Card No Longer Detected

Post by wes0 »

After suspending to RAM and waking the computer back up, my wireless card is no longer detected. I am running LMDE with all the latest updates. I saw there was a breakage for some wireless cards with a recent update (related to the package dnet-common). I do not have that package installed, so I am not affected by the break.

This is not the first time this has happened, but usually things would start working again. However, this time I decided to replace the wireless card with a spare as well, because I thought my card might be dying. This new card does not work either.

My computer model is an HP dv5z-1000 CTO. I have the latest BIOS drivers (which are supposed to solve an issue like this). There is no switch for the wireless in the BIOS. The wireless switch on the computer is on. Wired connection works.

Here are two commands that I know are usually helpful when troubleshooting this. Any thoughts anyone on what could be the problem? Thanks!

Even though I had already changed wireless cards, I tried to "reseat" the current one today just to see if that would help. It didn't.

Hello, the problem is not on the card or in LMDE, the problem is the motherboard of your lap. It's a well known issue with dv5 and dv6000, including tx1000 all the series... stops working the wireless and then the video if it has nvidia on it...

Do you have the same problems with a usb card?
