LMDE 201109-gnome 32 does not boot after install

Post by Christian-pl »

Hi all,

After succesful installation, at first boot attempt I get:

Code: Select all

Initramfs unpacking failed, LZMA data is corrupt.
Kernel panic - No init found.
Boot with recovery config looks similar.

Grub contains:
Set root='(/dev/sda,msdos3)'
And installation was done with root fs on sda3

I mounted sda3 on /mnt/3 to check:
  • $ ls /mnt/3/boot/
    boot grub System.map-2.6.39-2-486
    config-2.6.39-2-486 initrd.img-2.6.39-2-486 vmlinuz-2.6.39-2-486
  • $ find /mnt/3 -name init 2>/dev/null
    /mnt/3/sbin/init
    /mnt/3/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.39-2-486/include/config/init
    /mnt/3/usr/lib/os-probes/init
    /mnt/3/lib/init
Install with lmde 201109 gnome 64 worked fine on sda1, so i have dual boot lmde 32 and 64
CPU is intel core i3-2310m

Did anyone have the same problem that lmde 201109-gnome-32 does not boot after install?

Thanks,

Christian

Now I tried to install lmde 201109-32 xfce, this one worked fine.

I always check md5sum of downloaded image before creating an usb-stick with unetbootin,
LMDE 201109-gnome-32 failed even with checksum ok.

I don't want to switch to ubuntu, so I'll continue to investigate.

Did anyone succeed in installing LMDE 201109-gnome-32 ??

Thanks,
Russtopia

I am getting the exact same errors after installing linuxmint-201109-gnome-dvd-32bit.iso via USB. Runs fine off the key, but the installed OS fails.

I'm running an eMachines NAV50 netbook (off-brand of Acer Aspire One NAV51), 2GiB RAM. It ran Ubuntu 10 and 11 just fine.

I also had Mint fail on install on my HP desktop at work with similarly mysterious crashes, while Ubuntu installed fine.

I like Mint Linux but these install hiccups need to get fixed, it leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. :/

Edit: No idea if this is applicable, but perhaps the decompressor has a bug due to the version of GCC the distro was prepared with? See this post:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lzmauti ... ic/3525198

How would I regenerate the initramfs from the live USB environment assuming I could use the patched lzmautils at the above link?

Christian-pl. I have the LMDE 201109-gnome-32 dist installed and running successfully on Lenovo E13 and S10-3 machines.
Both were installed via USB DVD drive with no issues. Try downloading the ISO again from a different mirror and confirm the checksum before burning.
