Can't log on to the internet during the Live session

Hi,

I just made a mint 9 (gnome) LiveCD to try it and found out I can't log on to the internet.

I have Windows XP
What information can I provide else?

Are you trying wireless or wired internet? Wired internet should work. Wireless will take some problem solving. type this into terminal (copy, then ctrl+shift+v to paste) and reply with the output

As for the command line, as is nothing happened but when I removed the separator this showed..

@soccerz619: From the output already shared of just the lspci -vvnn, there is no 14e4 string in it. What is 14e4 in relation to this problem?

@BonbonRose: You say you have a wired router at home. Just to be clear, there is a wire from the computer with the problem going into this wired router? Check that on the back of the computer, where the wire goes in, there are two lights flickering (usually one to the left of the wire and one to the right). Just to confirm the network card has a connection with the wired router.

First of all Thank you for the link and sorry for my late reply I had some problems and I couldn't post back right away..

The steps is a little bit vague to me, would you mind clearing them up for me

1) Download und unpack the driver from the Atheros website >> unpack to the drivers directory (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers)
3) cd into the src sub directory of the driver >> what's cd
from step 4 on I don't know how to do it

cd is command line for change directory.
"cd into the src sub directory of the driver" change your directory to folder src of your unpacked driver.
example your location of unpacked drivers is /home/yourname/Download/atheros you will see src directory
type in terminal : cd /home/yourname/Download/atheros/src
the easy way is open computer>Downloads>atheros . right click to folder src select open in terminal

execute mean is copy and paste in terminal and press enter

I am sure is very difficult to configure a network driver use live cd (media is not write able ). If you install the driver , when you restart it will disappear, maybe you will try with newer version. Maybe Mint 11, or 12 I see your VGA card is capable running GNOME3.

nope but its newer and alot better. So u r doing that patch in Mint not in windows. So in mint push ctrl-alt-t to start terminal. After u download the driver in the same directory as in next code, follow the steps:

cd /tmp/Atheros/drv
tar xvvf AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.14.tar.gz
cd /tmp/Atheros/patch
tar xvvf AR81Family-linux-v1-1.0.1.14.patch.tar.gz
sudo make install
sudo modprobe atl1e

1st u gettin in the directory, extracting file - change something if its with other name (folder or file name), then getting in the extracted file directory and start it then im not sure what last 1 do
