Compiz installed but cannot find it.
I had to re install Mint 12 due to some corruption on the HDD, as I did not want to download the updates all over again I copied the "/var/cache/" to my other HDD , re installed Mint 12 and than manually set out to install the updates one by one, I did not install all of the updates just a few and I let the Update manager do the rest. Compiz I installed manually but it does not show up anywhere in my menus , so I uninstalled it using Synaptics and then installed it again using the software manager but still no luck.
The system is updated.
Sorry members I just found compiz came in like a ghost SO PLEASE IGNORE THIS POST.
Any guide on using compiz ?

Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
You can't use Compiz with Gnome Shell. You can, however, use it in Gnome Classic.
You might want to install ccsm.

Albert,
I am bit new to Mint, do you mean I need to login on the Gnome classic ? CCSM is not there in the software manager (Ouch CCSM did you mean Compiz config settings manager ? than that is installed. I saw amazing effects on youtube in compiz like a cube.
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Yes, you need to login into Gnome Classic to get it working on Mint 12. The normal session has effects but no Compiz.

Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Make sure the Compiz plugins from the repository are installed.

Software manager shows a a green tick on the compiz-plugins.
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Many plugins are part of Compiz Fusion so make sure the compiz-fusion packages are installed as well.
Edit: In Mint 12 the compiz-fusion packages actually point to compiz-plugins-main and compiz-plugins-extra. Make sure those 2 packages are installed as well.

Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Perhaps you need to enable Gnome Compositing in the desktop settings.

The only thing under Desktop Settings is terminal cookies
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
This is funny after logging onto the Gnome Classic and now whenever I want to log on to the new Gnome I still get the Gnome classic
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Hmm your graphics driver is somehow messed up, if gnome 3 won't work. Please run inxi -Gx in terminal (ctrl-alt-T) and post the output here.

Hiya It works in the recovery mode, I had made a post regarding the issue, will try it in the default mode thnx. But Compiz is not even working in Gnome classic.
If I may ask about LMDE as I am downloading the Gnome and XFCE versions , is LMDE stable ?
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
In recovery mode, you're always running without 3D support so Gnome Shell or Compiz won't work at all.

Nah I am not running in recovery mode this was the first I did , I had put up a thread regarding the Gnome problem was answered by a member stating to go in to recovery mode, so I did that and now Gnome 3 is working in normal mode.
Compiz does not work in the normal mode even gnome classic.

That's the output you asked for.
I ran compiz --replace but I get an error saying using gtk2 and gtk3 is not supported.
Re: Compiz installed but cannot find it.
Are you sure you are using Gnome Classic, and not the Shell which doesn't run Compiz?
Your graphics driver is actually working fine.
