Re: 2 Problems with Notification Area
1. the resize grip will solved soon...
2. the sound icons is a notify icon, not an applet, it cannot be moved. you can add the volume applet to have it in your desired position, and disable pulseaudio to hide the sound notify icon

Re: 2 Problems with Notification Area
Thanks for your replies.
It's the Notification Area 2011.11.24 as it seems from the about menu.
I want to be able to manage the volume with the scroll wheel, volume applet doesn't offer that.
I am used to have the volume control at the top right corner so i can very fast adjust the volume with the scroll wheel.

Re: 2 Problems with Notification Area
The about page should show Notification Area 1.1.0 with a link to Mate, if you are indeed running Mate.
I think mank_in is correct, and you are in Gnome Shell.

Re: 2 Problems with Notification Area

Is there a configuration file for this?
Re: 2 Problems with Notification Area
If you want to move the applet, right mouse click on left the icon applet. You can see option to unlock to panel, after that you can move the icon around panel
