LM12! Error: hd0 out of disk

Post by TangoVirtud »

HI! I was happily surfing the web with my magical AOA110, 1Gb ram, 8Gb usb pendrive hd, when it completely froze.
I waited for some half an hour, so as to help myself from turning it off from hardware, but it didn-t react.
I turned it off, I turned it on, it spent a couple of minutes and then it showed:

Error: hd0 out of disk.
Press any key to continue....

I did so, but it didn't work. So... What-s going on?

I had installed Linux Mint 12 *gnome*. I was quite happy with it. What happened?
I tried running from a live USB from a 16GB pen drive and reinstalling grub, but no improvement is show at reboot.

Some responses I get from the system:

dmesg | tail or so

Also, the 8Gb USB pendrive which I was using is detected and connected, but I cannot access it from the file navigator:

I'll welcome any help.

Oh! I forgot!

I tred to reinstall grub thru this:

mint ~ # sudo apt-get --reinstall install grub-common grub-pc os-prober
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I-ve tried rescatux, but loading counts -10 to load default but instead of loading, starts all over.
The same with other programs.
At least, could anyone told me how to crack into the pendrive to get my files back?
I'm using this computer with the live version. I could do it from windows 7 from another computer. I just need a file I got stuck into that pendrive.
For sure, there's at least one person who can try to help me in these forums.
Please, I beg you to help me...

I have a drive with a tiny switch on it that locks it to "read only". It's a rare occasion when the switch gets thrown without my knowledge but it happens. I don't use the switch so it took me days to figure it out. If you have a lock switch check it.
