Would there be LTS Stable version for LMDE?

As currently LMDE is based on the testing version of Debian 7, I would like to know whether there would be LMDE LTS Stable version when Debian 7 becomes stable. Or LMDE would remain based on the next testing verison of Debian? Kindly inform.

LMDE stays based on testing, not stable, so there will not be a LTS. But you can turn your LMDE into a stable at your own risk by changing your software sources list once Debian transfers testing packages into the stable repos.

You could always just elect not to upgrade. With the number of security patches that the LM project does, there'll hardly be a difference.

A "official" LMDE edition based on Debian stable (with or without backports) would be very useful. The LMDE FAQ has some information about how to do that for Debian 6.

Note that since LMDE repo now contains things like MATE, Cinnamon, updated mintMenu (changed to support MATE instead of Gnome 2) and other post-Gnome 2 stuff, it's probably not recommended to try that anymore (and zerozero mentioned that here).

I have been running an installation of LMDE/Stable/Debian Backports using the tutorial mentioned above. Its running just fine, but as you (and zerozero) mention, you do have to watch things being upgraded (there are not many)
The only thing that I had to 'pin' (keep from upgrading) so far is MintMenu. (the new one is a MATE version, the old GTK2)
Its actually a very nice setup, and super stable.

The LMDE-Squeeze setup has been my favorite for quite some time now. As the others have mentioned, it's getting a little tougher to maintain it with all the updates and additions to the packages.linuxmint.com repo.

I'm now honing and refining my new favorite, UP4 with MATE. Since Mint recently pulled in a new snapshot of Debian Testing it's very painless to change your sources from Mint Latest back to Debian Testing to replicate the LMDE-Squeeze experience of a LTS edition of LMDE. Simply call out Wheezy in place of Testing in the APT lines and you'll stay with that release even when it goes stable.

I'm running the same, LMDE pointed to Stable and with backports, no issues whatsoever. What exactly will be the problem/s I need to watch out for? Is it the backports that cause the trouble, or somehow being linked to Mint?
