Hi all.
I have a problem installing a printer on my linux machine at work. IT services here don't really know what to do with Linux as far as I can tell.
Anyway, my first problem is getting a driver to install. I am pretty green at this, so I would be very glad of some help.
I am running Linux Mint 12 (which is basically Ubuntu) on a 64 bit system.
The printer is a Fuji Xerox Docucentre IV c3375
Fuji makes a "global printer driver" which is supposed to work for basically all printers..in windows.
They direct you the the japanese language version of the site for a Linux driver. It is available as both .deb and .rpm packages, but neither will download for me.
I got the .rpm package from a third party, and tried to convert it to .deb with alien. I get the error message
fxlinuxprint-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm is for architecture i386 ; the package cannot be built on this system
I think there is a Mac driver with PPD files in it, but I don't know what to do.
Once I have the driver, i hope to set up as an LPR printer, but I don't know how to do that yet either.
Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Re: how do you install printers - Fuji Xerox c3375
I'm not at all familiar with Alien so don't know if it works with 32 bit .rpm files on 64 bit systems. If you are able to download the 32 bit .deb file from the manufacturer's site, you can try this command:
Before running the above command you'd likely need ia32libs installed and perhaps other packages in order to run 32 bit software to run on your 64 bit system. Are there any "you need to do this first" type instructions where you got the .rpm package?
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i --force-all <file-name.deb>
