Hello everyone, I am a newbie to Linux Mint (or any form of Linux) and I am having an issue with the update manager and am trying to find an answer for the problem. I did search the other posts but I did not see anything that was similar to try to fix the problem. So here goes the problem and thanks in advance for any assistance that you may give:
When I click on the update manager icon a window appears with the following message--
Failed to run /usr/lib/linuxmint/minUpdate/mintUpdate.py 'show' as user root.
Failed to exec new process: Permission denied.
If you can give me any help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Re: Can not update with update manager as user
I do not know how to copy and paste in the terminal as I really am a "newbie" but the output is as follows:
Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 13.0C mobo: N/A Fan Speeds (in rpm):
cpu: N/A

Re: Can not update with update manager as user
You copy paste using the mouse and right button. Also that should have been a capital S, linux is case sensitive.

Re: Can not update with update manager as user
Can you go to Startup Applications and click the entry for Update Manager then the Edit button. Copy the entry in the Command box and paste it back here.

Re: Can not update with update manager as user
I had a similar problem.
Go to menu > All Applications > All > Users and Groups
Verify the account type is Adminstrator
Click on the Manage Groups button
Select the sudo group on the left, click properties on the right
Verify the user account is in Group Members and there is an 'x' by it
Logout/Login and it should work
