For those not wanting to wait for skype 4.0 to show up in the repos here a page that explains how to install it on Mint and ubuntu
It works well for me with mint 13 and cinnamon I haven't tested it on any other versions yet.
Cheers.

Re: skype 4.0
Thanks kc1di!
I'm using Mint 9. Do I have to use the same commands as for Ubuntu - exactly as written on the mentioned web page?
How long is it likely to take until skype 4.0 can be installed with the software manager?

Re: skype 4.0
Thanks! I went to the link and step by step, I copy & paste to terminal. Works great! By the way, I'm a newbie
Install Skype on Ubuntu 64bit
wget -O skype http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-u ... _amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install libxss1 lib32stdc++6 lib32asound2 ia32-libs libc6-i386 lib32gcc1
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo dpkg -i skype && sudo rm skype

Re: skype 4.0
I think my system is 32-bit.
On the Skype download web page they differentiate also, among others, between Ubuntu and Debian.
I still wonder whether the commands, on the web site recommended above, are suitable for my mint version.

if you are using mint 32 bit and cinnamon then the ubuntu one works fine.manoka wrote:I think my system is 32-bit.

if you are using LMDE - i would think the debian one would work for you but I have not tried that.
if unsure just keep using the repository version it will be updated at some point.
Cheers

Re: skype 4.0
Unfortunately the repository version does not work well enough - there are too many crashes.
I'm quite a newbie as well, so I downloaded and installed the regular mint 9 version, though I don't really know about the -bit etc.
