Linux Mint KDE in a new laptop

Post by blakeyed »

Hi!

I've bought a new laptop, ASUS K53E SX1245V . I don't know if this problem happens on any other LM Edition, but when I boot into the live DVD, I am unable to activate Wireless LAN. Even when I do iwconfig I can't connect, and when I list wireless lan aps ( iwlist wlan0 scanning ) it says "Network is down" when I do ifconfig wlan0 up or set an address I get another error: "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address".

I thought Atheros AR9485 wasn't compatible with Linux, but I tested another live CD (System Rescue CD) and wireless lan works out of the box. aht9k module is loaded and ath9k_hw too as it is on SystemRescueCD.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My asus has atheros wireless too, however it is different from yours , mine is
03:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

May be you can try this out.
Open a root terminal,
remove the ath9k by rmmod ath9k
then modprobe ath9k
see if these action can establish wireless connection

I couldn't do that because ath9k was in use, but after installing LMKDE it runs ok, i think it is only the installer, i was a bit scared.

Thank you wayne128 !
