Can I install Xfce 13 along with 13 Cinnamon?

Post by Kelley_Green »

Hello all,

I have installed Mint 13 Cinnamon and I would also like to install Mint 13 Xfce so I can choose my front end when I log in.

The repos currently have Xfce 4.8 and not the new 4.10.

I don't want to install Xfce beside Cinnamon, but I would like to be able to download all the 4.10 packages so I have a login choice.
Does anyone know if this can be done or if the repos will be updated to 4.10?

Thanks.

Kelley

Yes you can 4.10

will need to use th ppa (Mint13-xfce does)

you can find comands on web (then copy/paste in terminal) google search 'xfce 4.10 ubuntu
you'll get the comands to activate on precise (Lmint13)

USE the last command to install xfce4 notxubuntu-desktop. Mint's cinnamon and XFCE App list are are almost the same.

P.S. you may want to install/use alacarte (menu editor) to clean up the menu in xfce session and again in Cinnamon session (not sure if alacarte is installed with cinamon edition)

Looks good. Thanks!

Here is what I am going to do:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xfce4

Commands from here: http://www.techlw.com/2012/05/install-x ... nt-or.html

Yes, alacarte is in the Cinnamon edition. :D

I have successfully installed Xfce 4.10 per the above but it is UGLY. Not as nice looking as the Mint 13 version of Xfce.

Sorry long wait... finally reinstalled LMint-XFCE

Their is a 'mint-meta-xfce' package in repo that depends all desktop. I would assume it gives all the artwork/themes/settings used in ISO.

Let know if that package brings in all you want?
and if at login its a xfce or mint-xfce you must choose for session?

Glad to help
Better late (with Mint installed) than wrong info!

For me it's Xfce. This may be because I installed 4.10 manually.

I installed the package and restarted. For me there is no difference. Which may be because I had already changed things manually.
