Hello from Siberia!

Post by morozniy »

How is everybody?

I've switched my main operating system from Windows 7 to Linux Mint and I'm very happy with it. I tried Linux a few years ago and found that it just wasn't enough to satisfy what I was doing at the time. Today, I keep my Windows 7 strictly for games and recording music. If I wasn't a gamer or a musician, I'm not sure I'd need Windows 7 at all. The open-source programs that were provided with Mint are quite good and do exactly what I need to do. It loads quite quickly, updating is easy, and there is support everywhere if I have any questions.

One of my first issues was solving the unknown filesystem grub rescue> thing. I had to use a live CD and chroot to get that fixed - but it was easy to find how to do it by just searching google.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying Mint, and I don't foresee any changes being made or any reason to go back to Windows for proprietary software. But, until Linux can do gaming and music recording, I'll have to keep Windows around for that.

Thanks, guys. Have a good one!

Hi morozniy, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums! Perhaps it won't satisfy your needs, but there are a lot of games for Linux. Check the online games stores such as http://www.desura.com, http://www.gameolith.com, http://www.indievania.com, http://www.humblebundle.com. All also carry games for Linux. Find some other free and commercial games through http://www.penguspy.com, and some news through http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/search/label/Games.

Be sure also to check out the Community website (tutorials, hardware and software reviews, ideas), and the Cinnamon Spices website for adding even more themes, applets and extensions to Cinnamon.

You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

Have fun with Linux Mint.
