Brother MFC j430
I have a Brother MFC J430 connected to my wireless network. I cant seem to follow Brother's directions to save my life. I downloaded the drivers but don't know how to get it working. I am running the latest version of Mint XFCE on a 32 bit laptop connected to the network via WIFI. The printer is also wirelessly connected to the network. I was able to get the laptop to connect running XP, but so far getting it work while in Mint is kicking my butt. Also, do I have to install both LPR Driver and CUPS?

Re: Brother MFC j430
Brother provide an installer
http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreemen ... nglish_lpr
I have seen various posts where folks say it is very good;
can I suggest you download Brother's installer and see how it works for you;
as you are using 32bit, that should be a big help too
when I go over the Brother's instructions pages; (which one would use if NOT doing the above)
it says
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs ... prn1a.html
Step 1. Login as a superuser ( or use "sudo" option if it is required )
Step 2. Check if pre-required procedures are completed
Step 3. Download drivers
Step 4. Install LPR driver and cupswrapper driver
4-3. Install LPR driver.
4-4. Install cupswrapper driver.
4-5. Check if the LPR driver and cupswrapper driver are installed
so you can see they say LPR first and then cupswrapper

Re: Brother MFC j430
Thanks. I'm in New Smyrna Beach this week, so I'll have to wait until I get back to Orlando to try. I ad tried the .deb on their website but I received a message that said there were "unresolvable dependencies," or something like that.
Re: Brother MFC j430
Hi Guys - Similar Problem with same printer. However in my case I have the printer connected to the main system via USB.
Using Mint 12 with the current 3.0.0.12 kernal - although I have seen some folk update to 3.0.0.13 as a fix to this issue (not tried yet)
"sudo update-grub"
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-12-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic
Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin
Have downloaded/Installed The Brother Cups and lpr files from their site and files from Synaptics.
Using "Lsusb" i get

So it sees the device however when bringing up the print dialogue screen and show everything is there, will not print!
Using "sane-find-scanner -v"
incl this line

However Sane will not find it?

Re: Brother MFC j430
1) If you copy and paste this command
2) have a look in
http://localhost:631/printers/
(paste into a spare web browser page);
3) ......if we verify you installed lpr first and then cupswrapper;
4) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems an ubuntu debugging page:
a section of it says
.it looks to see which drivers are installed......sudo dpkg -l | grep Brother
