really strange problem ..

Post by jasonwatkins »

since yesterday, my firefox has been acting very strangely.

it takes forever to load, and when it eventually does, it takes forever to actually connect to the internet.

and then it does that, i still have to wait before i can actually do anything because the screen will fade to black and white, usually to signify firefox isn't responding, then it'll come back again.

and it'll do this 3 or 4 times when i'm trying to do something - i can't make sense of it because i haven't installed anything that would feasibly affect it.

if anyone has any ideas, i'd be grateful .. cheers

well it appears that the foxytunes add-on was causing the problem - i've just re-installed firefox and uninstalled foxytunes and it's running fine now.

i might try to re-install foxytunes though and see what happens because it's something i use a lot.

Sounds like a Widows user. I didn't do anything! well I did that and that and that. But I didn't think it would cause a problem!
Pretty much all free software wants to send data to its host website and affect your computer somehow.
You allow Firefox to access the internet so any add ons have access to the internet too.
Its a good thing Linux is Virus proof except when you install software and Firefox is safe except when you install add ons.

i don't really get what you're implying with your response but i've used foxytunes on Linux for a long time with no issues.

It is feasible that the author of this add-on has simply released an update that is buggy.

From my experience the more FF plugins you run the slower FF will run, also the more complicated those plugins are the slower FF will run.

that's fair enough but i only ever run two plugins - adblock plus and foxytunes.

no mind though, i'm getting used to not using foxytunes and i'll just wait a while and try again in case it's an error in the update.
