Which Forum?

Post by odo5435 »

I recently installed LM13 KDE on my wife's laptop. It's mostly gone without a hitch if you disregard possible divorce proceedings.

There is just one gripe. Where should I search for solutions or post problems? Should I look here Main Edition Support ‹ Newbie Questions, or here Main Edition Support ‹ Desktops & Window Managers ‹ KDE, or here Other Edition Support ‹ KDE? It gets quite confusing, particularly when you find a solution in one forum and then have to trawl through all of them to find that thread again (because you forgot to bookmark it in your haste to solve a problem).

Is one of these forums redundant or is there some difference between "Main Edition KDE" and "Other Edition KDE"? What is "Other Edition KDE"?

The forum structure is quite confused, mainly for historical reasons. The kde and other editions were originally community releases, which is why there are separate forums. Taking xfce which was a community edition, then based on the main edition then on LMDE and is now on main edition again, you can see how things get confusing. I understand this is being looked at but as far as searching you should look at all forums and post in the most appropriate for the type of query. there does seem little to choose between the desktops - KDE and other editions -KDE forums but I would use the former for desktop interface questions and the latter for general KDE questions.

That is not a good reason to keep things in a "confused" state permanently.

Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of having separate forums?

If you have issues with the forum operation or structure then pm the mods. If you ask questions in the forums you will get opinions.
