When i was using Mint 11 Katya there was an option in the repository actually two "Plymouth Theme Mint Text and Plymouth Theme Mint Logo" Now that I'm using Mint 13 Maya they seem to have vanished. The reason i ask, because with those installed i had a splash screen, made it rather colorful..
Anyone know where i might find them, i believe a splash screen was standard issue in the earlier versions..
Tia..

Re: Splash
Well the instructions are easy enough but when i enter everything as its written i get a blinking cursor..
This is the command: sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
0 /lib/plymouth/themes/no-logo/no-logo.plymouth 200 auto mode
* 1 /lib/plymouth/themes/mint-logo/mint-logo.plymouth 150 manual mode
2 /lib/plymouth/themes/no-logo/no-logo.plymouth 200 manual mode
Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:
I've entered the number 1 then *1 then [*] then pushed enter then the entire string: /lib/plymouth/themes/mint-logo/mint-logo.plymouth maybe its this toothache..
I'll keep you posted..
Thanks..

Re: Splash
I'm wondering if its possible to import packages from a different distro in order to make this splash work. In the main repository as you scroll down near the bottom you'll see: "plymouth-theme-mint-logo" and "plymouth-theme-mint-text" I'm as green as green can be so that's why i ask..
http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Katya
If its possible I'm thinking it will work as it worked in Mint 11 Katya..
Thanks..

Re: Splash
Hi guys I'm back and have i the story this story.. i know i know this tutorial was meant for "Mint 12 Lisa" but it was there so i thought I'd give it a test drive "Warning" read the second sentence where it says "do this at your own risk" If there was an easier way I'd take it, being a beta tester taught me to be cautious so be careful if you decide to try it i did and i don't recomend it unless you know what your doing or you take the chance of breaking something, don't think Clem would like to see that happen..
There is a workaround for 'Mint 12 Lisa'.
But this is an irregular way, so you should do this at your own risk.
[1] Add repository of 'Mint 11 katya' to "Software Sources" temporarily.
-1 Open "Software Sources".
-2 Click on "Other Software" tab.
-3 Click on "Add..." button.
-4 Input APT Line as below:
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ katya main upstream import
-5 Click on "Add Source" button.
-6 Close "Software Sources".
[2] Reload repository then Install 'plymouth-theme-mint-logo' and 'plymouth-theme-mint-text' with "Synaptic Package Manager" or "Software Manager".
(Probably some packages would appear as Upgradable, but ignore them.)
[3] Tick off against katya's repository (or remove it) in "Other Software" of "Software Sources" after installation of the packages above.
[4] Reboot your PC.
[5] Plymouth splash screen of Mint would appear while booting.
