Conky dissapears when clicking on "Show desktop" button

Post by hg088 »

Hi, I installed nadia yesterday.

Today i installed conky and it shows perfectly but when i click on the "Show desktop" button it disappears like any other window.

I've tried setting the own_window_type to norma, desktop, override, any of those work.

I can confirm this. Same problem here.

I know there are other people here that have had the same issue. I did. Go back a couple months in this subforum and you may find an answer. I'm pretty sure I posted my solution. I don't remember exactly what I did.

edit: not with version 14 though, so this may be a little different.

Same thing with me. I've just installed Linux Mint Nadia Cinnamon and Mate(both 64bit) as a dual-boot on Dell Inspiron N5040 and i'm having a problem with conky on both desktops. It flickers on Mate and disappears on Cinnamon when I click on show desktop. I've tried the following own_window_type: conky, desktop, normal and override. Non of them keeps conky from disappearing or flickering. When I set own_window_type to "desktop" conky doesn't re-appear when all windows are returned to their former state (unminimised).

This is my conkyrc in case it matters:

HI Linuxers got the solution for Linux Mint Mate/ Cinnamon just follow the white rabbit :D :

1_ Mate:

1- Solution1:
simply go to " Preferences-Desktop Settings" then navigate to "Windows" and check "Use compositing".
1- Solution2: install compiz as follows:
1- install the followig packages:

- compiz-gnome
- compizconfig-settings-manager
- fusion-icon
- compiz-plugins-extra
- libdecoration0-dev

2- In terminal run "compiz --replace" or run Compiz Fusion Icon and choose compiz as your window manager.

3- Go to Startup Applications click on add and in the name field write "compiz" and in the command field enter "compiz --replace"(without the punctuation) click on Add again then Close. This is to make compiz start automatically on next logins.

4- To stop that high CPU usage run in terminal “mateconf-editor”. When the editor opens go to /desktop/mate/session/required_components/windowmanager and replace "marco" with "compiz".

3- install "dconf-editor" by runnig in terminal:

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

Then press ALT + F2 and run: "dconf-editor", navigate to org > gnome > desktop > vm > preferences and change the "theme" value from "Adwaita" to any other installed theme you want. Remember this because in the same place you can also change the window button layout, among others.

2_Cinnamon:

I- instructions:

1- change own_window_type to dock so it looks like this : own_window_type dock

Don't panic when you see your conky alignment messed up( it will move to your left) :D. Just go to step 2.

2- finetune gap_x and gap_y.

I set them like this myself:
gap_x 1030
gap_y 20

3- comment alignment by adding # beforeso it looks like this:
#alignment top_left

II- Sample conkyrc:

I've addressed this issue and updated Conky-LinuxMint Nadia(which I had published before the release was out) which you can get at the following link:

Re: Conky dissapears when clicking on "Show desktop" button

Post by homerscousin »

This is old and I'm not sure it has been resolved for everyone. Here is a piece of my Conky and how I got it to NOT disappear, ever.

# Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus)
own_window yes
own_window_color e9967a
#own_window_transparent no
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 25
#own_window_type override
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

I eliminated that own_window_type .....etc and that worked.

The accepted answer from here worked for me:

It's just a simple edit of the .conkyrc file
