Hello everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble setting up my xorg.conf to 120hz when it goes into a resolution of 800x600.
I'm running a NVIDIA GTX260. I've tried going into nvidia-settings and although I can see the refresh rate, I cannot change it.
My attempts to modify my xorg.conf file manually has resulted in me reversing said modifications as the X server didn't want to boot afterwards.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Setting monitor to 120hz in 800x600
Just to add, I also just tried a sneaky way of doing things by setting the resolution in nvidia-settings to 800x600 and setting the refresh rate to 85, then going into xorg.conf and setting it to 120 but when I do this it just reverts me back to standard resolution and refresh rate. :<

Reviving this as I still do not have a solution.
Re: Setting monitor to 120hz in 800x600
UPDATE: Ok I have some progress going.
I set the following modeline in my xorg.conf:
Now, this gets me 120hz refresh but another problem pops up when I go into that resolution rate.
The screen has thick lines going through it that move and the picture is very dark and moderately discoloured. I would take a screenshot but I'm almost certain it's to do with the monitor itself.
My monitor is a Philips Brilliance 202P4.
I set the following modeline in my xorg.conf:
Code: Select all
Modeline "800x600@120" 91.85 800 832 1176 1208 600 609 621 631

Re: [SOLVED] Setting monitor to 120hz in 800x600
UPDATE: Ok, I have solved all issues by using this modeline instead of the one above:
Not sure what was different. Regardless, it now works. I am curious to know why though...
Code: Select all
Modeline "800x600_120.00" 83.95 800 856 944 1088 600 601 604 643 -HSync +Vsync
