Link Dropbox with Nemo

Post by HisDudeness »

Hi everyone! I'm running LMDE 201204 with Cinnamon 1.6.4 (installed via Romeo) and Nemo 1.0.7. I have compiled Dropbox from source to get it on my system, but it is obviously integrated with Nautilus by default. I don't know what major consequences it bears, but the basic thing I wanna fix is clicking on tray icon opens my Dropbox folder using Nautilus, while I completely left it using Nemo for everything, and I configured my system to run Nemo for file browsing. So, actually, it's just a useless commodity auto-opening issue, but I'd want Dropbox to use Nemo by default. Long story short, here are my questions:
  • How can I make Dropbox use Nemo to open shared folder upon tray icon clicking?
  • Is Dropbox integrated with Nautilus in a deeper way than just automatically opening shared files folder clicking on its tray icon? If yes, how? And is it possible to make the same thing with Nemo?
Thanks much, have a terrific day!

Not sure if this applies to your LM spin, but in Mint 14 Cinnamon you simply install the nemo-dropbox package and that's it, no need to compile anything.

Nope... unfortunately, it looks like package nemo-dropbox isn't available for the Debian Edition... Probably it's an Ubuntu exclusive package. Does not work neither in apt-get neither in mintinstall.py, not even with Romeo enabled. I'll try to look if the package is available for Debian in some place.

it should at least be available in romeo for you.
what is exactly your inxi -r

Code: Select all

zerozero@deb-kde ~/Documents $ apt policy nemo-dropbox
nemo-dropbox:

This is my inxi -r output:
Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/linux ... ian/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/linux ... t/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/linux ... multimedia testing main non-free
I also tried apt policy nemo-dropbox and got this:
nemo-dropbox:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 1.0.0+lmde
Version table:
1.0.0+lmde 0
700 http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian/romeo amd64 Packages

I've tried dragging some files into my Dropbox folder in Nemo. These have been correctly added to my online account (as it should, given that Dropbox automatically sync my account with a folder in my computer individuated by its absolute path, not depending on the program used to add files in it). No "synced" green V and "syncing" rotating blue arrows are displayed on files and folders, that's all. Is this all integration adds? Default program link and status icons?

Yes, but that's an important aspect of dropbox integration though, I wouldn't miss it :)

Both if you are kidding or serious, I agree with you! I mean, apart from the nice view of it, and for the commodity of seeing what has correctly been added and what is being processed, it is also an indicator of a fully working and stable system. Dropbox is meant to do all those stuff, if in my computer it doesn't it means it is not fully working, and so my system can be improved. Guess I'm becoming more and more geekish and OCD with the passing of time...

By the way, love your symbolic icons applets, I use them both, they are perfect for my desktop setup!

I also installed the nemo-dropbox package, and was disappointed that it didn't enable the "get public link" service in the right-click context menu. I actually posted a message to that effect here a few minutes ago, and then came back now to delete it after I logged out of Cinnamon and back in again, and found that that had gotten it working. Silly me.
