[SOLVED] Weird partitioning?

Post by nomko »

Hi all,

What happend here??? I did a normal installation, let the installation program partition my disc and now i get this :!: :?:
Is this normal?

/dev/sda2 is an extended disc :?:
/dev/sda5 is the swapdisc :?:

Can someone explain this to me?? I'm running Mint 14 + Cinnamon 1.6
Many thanks!

Yes, that seems about right for the automatic partitioning.
For a first install it is interesting.
Probably want to install again, choosing to Do Something Else,
which will let you partition as you wish.

I already did that second option and got the same partitioning. Probably it is the rigth way to partition the disc for Mint. And just noticed on the laptop of my relative that it is partitioned the same way as the screendump i added.

This is normal when partitioning, the swap (sda5) is in an extended partition (sda2). the main partition is sda1 (primary) the very small unallocated space is due to partitions not being able to fill exactly to the end of the physical space.

This explains a lot! Many thanks!

I don't totally agree with this. OpenSuse doesn't have this issue. OpenSuse uses the total amount of space when partitioning the disc in ext4.
