Odd slow speed problem

Postby kir » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:51 pm

Greetings from Greece!I am running linux mint 14 on a toshiba tecra A8 and I have a very odd problem. My wireless and wired connection to my router gets randomly very slow. The strange thing is that when I connect my phone to the router speed is fine. To make things worse when I make my mobile phone a hotspot(not with my home connection) and connect to it with my laptop the speed is fine again! So i can't figure out if it's the laptop's problem or the router's!! Any ideas?

My wireless and wired connection to my router

Open a terminal and run the "route" command.
Here's my output:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
default UG 0 0 0 eth0
link-local * U 1000 0 0 eth0 * U 1 0 0 eth0

look and ensure you only have ONE default interface (iface column) setup. I used to use both wired (ethx) and wireless (wlanx). The problem I discovered was that each setup a different default route for the same network, this confuses the box. If it can figure out which way to go, it takes a long time to do it.

My solution, was to only use one NIC. If you need to use more than one NIC, ensure that there is only ONE default, no matter how many networks (first 3 octets) are connected.

Return to “Ethernet”
