Multi-booting all 4 flavors of Mint?? How??

Post by 7heD4rkKnigh7 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 2:00 pm

I want to create a multi-boot DVD of all 4 flavors of Linux Mints latest releases: KDE, XFCE, Cinammon, and Mate. I need to know how to do this. I don't care whether its manually or whether there is a program that will do it for me. Although, manually would be preferred because I like to know how to do things myself versus having a program or script do it for me. But either way would be great. In the end, I simply want to be able to burn an .ISO image to a DVD that allows me to boot into any of the four flavors of Linux Mint mentioned above and that are currently available. I honestly think this is something that a lot of people would want so anyone who can provide this information would be doing more than just me a favor I am sure.

In fact, I would like to see the developers of Linux Mint provide this as another option on their website for download. It just seems to make sense. Hope someone at the Linux Mint company reads this and takes the hint. But in the meantime, while they are implementing my great idea, I still want to do it myself, in record time. So please, lets get on with this. Linux multi-boot gurus, please begin sharing your infinite wisdom now. Thank You.

Basically you can do it making a custom bootloader for a DVD, which boots all the ISOs, or you can make a custom DVD ..

Okay I lied about me wanting to learn how to do this myself. :)

I followed the link you posted and read the page. It was like me trying to read a Chinese book. I guess I should have mentioned I am a Linux newbie.

Maybe some ambitious person reading this thread can do what I am asking for and post a script that would create the .ISO DVD image I asking for?

I have already downloaded all 4 flavors of the available Mint images. I just need a script, I am guessing, to mix them in a blender so I can burn them to a DVD as one.

I think that if you make a folder for booting files and copy all the ISOs to the folder + download and extract SuperGrub2 files to the same folder + edit grub.cfg file adding your ISOs'information to the file. After that install xorriso package and make a bootable ISO from the folder.

grub-mkrescue --overlay=/the_right_path_here Multidistro.iso

http://www.supergrubdisk.org/category/d ... sk-stable/

http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/p20 ... UB2_CD-ROM

http://www.panticz.de/MultiBootUSB

Now you should be able to make a multidistro DVD, but test the ISO using Virtualbox first for testing if it is working or not ..

Thanks very much for your post. I will try this when I have some extra time. If anyone else tries before me, please post your results. Thank You.
