I am running a Windows 7 VM in workstation 9 on a Linux MInt 14 host. The VM cannot attach any USB device (except for keyboard and mouse). I think VMware is looking for the USB in /proc/bus/usb, but that folder does not exist and there is no mountdevsubfs.sh script in /etc/init.d.
Any ideas?

Solved: solution
Sometimes I feel like an idiot. It is not well documented but VMware workstation 9 defaults to starting VMs as "shared." This means that USB passthrough is disabled and no USB controller can be added to the VM. Solution is to mark the VM as private and add a USB controller. Duh.
