Hello Linux!

Post by ArkadioG » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:17 am

Hi to all, my name is Arek, I'm 32.
My first computer was Commodore C64 - I was 9-12 and then I tried to program in Turtle and Basic.
My first PC was DX4 100Mhz with 4 Megs of ram and graphic card Trident 0,5 MB. I used DOS and Norton Comander, to draw something was Win 3,11 - sweet times :) I wrote programs in Turbo Pascal.

Just 2 weeks ago I installed Mint 14 on my old laptop and must say it gained more performance than on Vista - it works much quicker, and without annoying lags.

Main reason for installing Linux was, that I needed to instal VMWare or VM Virtual Box to run virtual machine. I need it for my MOOC course that I take - Harvard's CS50x. As You may guess, it was waaaaaaaay to annoying to run om Vista on my hardware :D

Last year I renewed my interest in programming and web dev - it used to be my hobby like 15 years ago, but my jobs were slightly different. But 3,5 years ago my wife had terrible car crash, so I had to take care of her, first 2 years were just hospitals, phisical therapy etc., and 2012 was time that I had plenty of time at home , so I came back to computer science.

In 2012 I took some online courses at Coursera - Introduction to Python and Interactive Programming in Python and Social Network Analysis; I started learning at home HTML, CSS, JS and Ruby - using Codecademy, TheNewBoston, UdaCity etc.

All this is becouse I have head full of nice ideas that I would like to put in motion and just becouse I like it!

Plan for next month: Start up my startup

welcome to the Mint family forums

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.
