[SOLVED] Changing background color of desktop icon captions.

Post by jimwg »

Greetings!

The subject line says it all; I wish to change the background color of my desktop icon's captions, even transparent if possible. I Googled this problem dry and these tricks aren't in Ubuntu Tweaks or Gnome Tweak Tools so can such be done? Running XFCE Nadia.

Thanks for any hint!

Good tip! Only wish there was a simpler way or front-end to do this for non-techies! Thanks for the tip!

Works like a dream! Thanks! This brings up a new issue that even Gizmo's great Mint tips (he should be here!) doesn't Google up, and that is can I increase the number of visible letters of the desktop icon's caption before it gets truncated by periods? It does show more text if you do teeny fonts but that's kind of self-defeating for friendliness. Any hints are welcome!

This has been an invaluable lesson turning my desktop icon text background transparent!! Thank you all! Just one thing I'm stuck in; I'd like to set shadows for my white icon text color so the text contrasts better in near white, light yellow and pink backgrounds. I've tried all kinds of combos. I know MATE can create such icon text shadows, so is this a XFCE limitation?

Thanks for any hints!
