Add a category to Cinnamon menu

Postby JohannesBrahms » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:20 am

I am interested to write a file to add a new category to Cinnamon menu. In Gnome, for example, if I add the following file /etc/xdg/menus/applications-gnome-merged/

Code: Select all

  PUBLIC '-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN'

and the file /usr/share/desktop-directories/

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
, all the desktop files with the line

Code: Select all

will be added as item to Wine category, and not to to "Others".
If I want add a personal category to existing categories (AudioVideo, System, Development, Office, Graphics...), there is a way? Cinnamon ignore all my settings, and add the programs to "Others" is the category is not one of the default ones.
N.B. I want add a personal category, not Wine.
N.B.2 I search for add systems files to the default ones, not to change them. So, if tomorrow I want add another category, I will add another files, without change the old ones.
Thank you

if your running cinnamon 1.6 it's as simple as right clicking the menu button and selecting edit menu then add new menu works great.
