Can I play the mmo "Eve-online" on Linux Mint 14?

Post by emarnesu »

Hi. I'm totally new to this linux thing and I want to know if i can install Eve using wine.
I googled it and found out that most linux users are using Ubuntu to run Eve.

I have the latest version, "Nadia".

yes i dont see why not. but i would recommend you install 32bit linuxmint if you want to make use of wine.

32bit mint detects more than 4Gb ram, so no worries there.

I thought 32 bit was the one with the ram cap.

in windows yes, not in linux. Linuxmint 32bit is PAE enabled and detects all your ram.

It doesn't work. Might it be important to install in the default location? I put in my home folder instead.
*edit*install folder does not matter*

The startup screen loads but the game doesn't start.

Eve online works perfect in Wine. as you can see here : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... ngId=76283 It recieved Silver ratings in most casing and gold in 12.10 which is what mint kernel is based on.

Your options are 1 of two :

1. You can through that page, find your errors and read how to fix them.

or

2. You do as i suggested the first time around and install 32bit mint and then install wine and Eve and you should have it working in just a few clicks.

How can I figure out if I have 32-bit or not? I think I chose the 32-bit version because I don't have more than 4gb ram.

Thanks for the reply.

LENOVO told me that by removing windows 8 from my IDEAPAD S415 TOUCH that ive voided my warranty... well tough shit lenovo... if i buy a toyota.. i can paint it ANY colour i want....... windows 7 (sorry to mention it) will not install on it bcuz the install will not detect the hard drive ... but linux mint does....... i have malware 10 installed now.. *windows 10) and its COMPLETELY infected with malware.. i give up ... i want ONLY linux mint on my lenovo... but if i cant run eve online.. there is no purpose to owning this notebook 4 me.... :|

That's because you OWN the Toyota. You do not OWN Windows 8 on the Lenovo; instead, you have a license to use it. Basically, you're leasing Win8. If you leased the Toyota, you could NOT paint it any color -- because you then would not OWN it.

As to warranties, the SELLER gets to set the warranty terms, not the buyer. Sorry, but that's how it works.
