not updating from Mint11 (katya)

Post by status1 »

Since installing Mint 11 (katya) LXDE 32bit over Linpus on my wife's AOO, she's never had an update, even though the green tick tells her she's up to date. I tried updating manually through Update Manager. It initially downloaded lots of updates then gave a huge list of things it couldn't do and ended up updating nothing. I noted a lot of the problems related to not finding the linux mint server so I followed the instructions from the post - http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=122213 - "Trouble updating? Solution provided here" by xenopeek and changed to a server in the Netherlands, even though I'm in the UK, but this was the best recommended. Trying again, it downloads but ends with this dialogue - see attachment - and nothing is there for update. The green tick is still there. I'm confused :? Any help appreciated.

Probably because Mint 11 has been obsolete since Oct of last year.

I'd suggest Mint 13 Maya,... its supported until =
Long term support release (LTS), supported until April 2017.

Thanks for the reply. Excuse me for being slightly dim but which of those would you recommend? LXDE was recommended for the 32bit AOO but I can't see a LXDE 32bit on the list. Big problem is that all these are on DVD, by the look of the table. The AOO does not have a CD/DVD drive :( .

Mint doesn't have the official Mint 13 LXDE but Mint 13 XFCE LTS is also light. You can download the ISO file and use a USB pen to install Mint to that netbook. I like to use UNetbootin to prepare the USB pen but there are other ways: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744
