New install presents blank dialog box = unusable

Post by Strider22 »

I just installed Linux Mint 14.1 - 32 bit onto my laptop.
When it boots from the hard drive, there is this large blank white dialog box.
I can't see anything on it. Tried dragging a highlight box over it but still nothing shows.
As I move the cursor over it, the cursor shows the text cursor in some places.

How do I get by this dialog box & fix this so that linux mint will work?

When I booted from the DVD it looked ok... no such box.

Installed to Partition /dev/sda2
(sda1 = toshiba volume, sda4 = ubuntu, sda3 = swap)

There is a laptop monitor and an acer display.

You need to poist more detail. The make and model number would be helpful.

Toshiba Satellite P200-RT2

Thought someone could say what the dialog box is and then we could work out what needs to be done.
Is there a way to see the text? I tried highlight but there may be some other method... eg copy and paste it somewhere etc.

I turned off the external display and the dialog box was visible as a welcome dialog showing the forum, help etc.

Once I closed that box, I turned back on the external display. The two displays are mirrored. If I simply turn off the mirroring then the displays flash black and then visible.
The displays are not quite right at 1152x864 4:3... the laptop is square with wide black bands on the sides. The Acer X183H B monitor is stretched horizontally slightly.

The icons on the desktop upper left disappeared (or moved to the bottom bar) while testing various resolutions.

Can you point me to setting up the laptop correctly... I'll leave the external display off for a while.
Thanks

Although off, I had to remove the connector to the display.
Then detect display worked properly... I am now at 1440x900 16:10 for the laptop only screen.

Will worry about external monitor later.
