Parental control on Mint?

I am looking for a way to filter away adult content from a specific account on this laptop.

Online there is much praise for WebContentControl which is a parental control GUI (more specifically a GUI for DansGuardian+TinyProxy+FireHol).

Unfortunately the only guide I can find is on how to configure it on Ubuntu which I tried to install anyway but it would not work. The guide is @ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=843510

I tested domain blocker but it would not even block facebook despite having three entries for it, facebook.com, http://www.facebook.com, and *.facebook.com, besides, I would like an automatic blocker.

Kids use linux too, right?

WebContentControl's PPA is no longer useful I think; it only supports releases of Ubuntu that are obsoleted and doesn't support any of the current Ubuntu releases as used by Linux Mint as a package base. You can see the supported Ubuntu releases here: http://ppa.launchpad.net/webcontentcont ... ntu/dists/

I'm not sure what the best solution for parental control is. You might consider OpenDNS' FamilyShield, though I don't know how good it is: http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/p ... -controls/. You would just set that as the DNS and no further configuration needed. Not sure you can easily configure that to apply for just one account. Alternative would be to set up DansGuardian yourself.

I have used OpenDNS regular and FamilyShield and unfortunately they both cause problems using the bittorrent protocol. Mint also only has an option to enable DHCP and add additional DNS servers. From the word additional it is unclear if it will use DHCP for IP, default gateway, and subnet mask, but use the DNS servers I specify like on other operating systems, or perhaps only use them as a redundancy.

Also, I am unsure if I could apply that to just one account, right now I can only install software using the original account created during install, despite one of the two accounts I created since being an Administrator. I found FoxFilter, and addon for Firerfox, and it seems nice, but if I can do this using open source and without it costing money I will.

I had investigated Dansguardian before posting but it was a different website which seemed to present it as only for blocking certain manually specified websites - on further investigation it seems now it can be automated using blacklists.
