Burn ISO to DVD

Last night I was using my HP Mint installation to backup and resize an external USB drive. My intention for resizing was to download, brun ISO to dvd, and install Ubuntu Saucy.
I was successful to the point of burning the ISO. In the past (using Ubuntu) a simple right click on the ISO provided write to disk option. Perhaps I missed something but I was unable
to burn the dvd using Mint 14 - Cinnamon. I put to ISO file on a shared drive, rebooted to Ubuntu Raring and used the rt click to write to disk (exact same ISO and hardware).
I was successful installing Saucy to the usb drive.

Because of my newness to Mint I probably missed something (yes I did try brassero) ... any hints from my learned posters?

To burn a disc image to DVD like images of operating systems, type

growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=/path/to/iso_file

Example: To burn image LinuxMint.iso located at Downloads folder of a user, type

growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=/home/user_name/Downloads/LinuxMint.iso

I'm curious why the 'simple right click option to write to disk' is available in Ubuntu and not in LM 14?

Thanks again Dis93; I haven't tried it as yet ... I had completed the task using Ubuntu and haven't had the need to burn another live dvd as yet. I'll be sure to try it when I upgrade to LM 15 later this month

I prefer using K3b for all my burning jobs. For ISO's on the toolbar go to TOOLS then BURN IMAGE. Works great.

Thanks, but I have absolutely no idea what K3b is!
I'm relatively new to the Linux world wrt personal computing.
I'm already testing:
Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10 on both 32 & 64 bit platforms
Linux Mint 14 on both 32 & 64 bit platforms
And I'm planning on Linux Mint 15 early next month.

There are aspects of each one that I like and don't like, I don't have the inclination to add something else to my testing plate at this time. I was just curious as to why the difference between Ubuntu and Linux Mint on the right click to write to disk.

K3b is KDE's included burning program. I tried to burn 2 iso's with Brassero. I manually selected a lower burn speed but it did not seem to work. It just ran at the max my drive could burn at. K3b was quite accurate at lowering burn speeds. Just in case you happen to see the same.

Best burning tool for me is xfburn. It is only 1MB in size but very effective and fast To install simply run in terminal :

K3b is a very user friendly disc burning application written for KDE. You can install it from the Package Manager.

Thanks to Brahim, chiefjim, and homerscousin for pointing us in the direction of GUI apps, and explaining what they are and how to get them. Excellent advice for n00bs like me and exactly what forums should be like. Kudos!

re : the xfburn install.

Can someone post instructions in frightening detail, to install xfburn onto a LM13 computer which is not online.
(...downloading to a machine which IS connected, and from which the downloaded file will be walked to the destination machine (LM13) onto which xfburn should be installed.
Include any dependency info, instructions etc.
Perhaps start with where to download a *non-broken* version.
