Hi,
Maybe someone can explain, why PayPal is the preferred
way to receive donations?
I recently bought a few prepaid credit cards to make donations.
When I wanted to donate to LM, I faced PayPal.
Seriously? PayPal? The much hated eBay subsidiary?
The one, who does not allow anonymous donations,
does not accept prepaid gift cards? The one being
notorious for stealing funds from customers?
Am I the only one (yeah, a phrase, I know) who
would like to use a different way?
Donation via PayPal?

Re: Donation via PayPal?
Hi,
I'm a very newbie to the forums, but I'm fo the same opinion, so I'd like to get an information about donation für LM without using PayPal.
Think, there are several users feeling the same (e.g. by former experiences) and donating via non-paypal should be a fine idea.
btw: LM (just installed Maya about 6 weeks ago as lin-experienced home user) ist THE solution and I want to donate for the first time in my linux-life
Thanks for suggestions and good time to all of you,
willy

Re: Donation via PayPal?
You do not need to have a PayPal account, if you want to use a credit card for the payment (which is still processed by PayPal in that case, however).

Re: Donation via PayPal?
I have a Debit Card for my Checking Account that has the MasterCard logo on it. It's not a credit card. It's a checking debit card. Sometimes when I buy online i have to type in a MasterCard security code on some websites that participate in that new MasterCard feature.
http://www.mastercard.us/securecode.html
I tried using it to donate to Linux Mint and Paypal blocked it.
""""The card you entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit or debit card number."""""
LinuxMint is being blocked by Paypal. Why?

Re: Donation via PayPal?
@ pickles99: That is a PayPal problem, it probably can't be changed that here at Mint. We don't mean to block anybody. Please ask at PayPal instead.

Re: Donation via PayPal?
If you want free money please use something besides Paypal to take donations.
Can you provide an address to send money?

I would like to make donations -
but, I will not send money over the internet with a credit card or with Paypal (personal reasons).
I know it seems a bit strange in this day and age - but there are people like me who don't like making transactions over the internet.
For example, I would send an International Money Order to a post office box (or something similar).
Or if I could go to my local bank branch, and deposit cash into Linux Mint's bank account
- in the same way I have paid bills for services rendered in the past. Is this possible to do internationally? I don't know.
My 2c
..... and my donations would be much more than that

Edit - 17 Jan 2013
Ok - so I gave in - got a prepaid Mastercard to use for donations.
But, I would still prefer to do it another way ...

Re: Donation via PayPal?
Paypal has never steered me wrong in fact they stepped upto the plate for me when i was frauded by someone, they took legal action on my behalf and i got my stolen money back and a credit.
each to there own. I prefer Paypal whenever possible, it's fairly anonymous and unless you are stupid enough to put money into your paypal account it's as secure as many other things, you should be more concerned with the people you are buying from that use PayPal not PayPal itself.
