Deluge checks the file and takes forever - normal?

Post by iamclueless »

Hi

just a quick question, im running deluge on an old PC... it geos through the file checking them one by one before starting to download... and it hogs the CPU so you cant do anything until it starts all the downloads.

is this normal behaviour (im running Cassandra XFCE)

im also running Ktorrent on an equally old laptop but downloads start right away....

is this a difference in the features that different bittorrent applications have???? if so, please recommend a bittorrent app suitable for an XFCE desktop (dont wanna do ktorrent coz it will drag in too many dependencies)

thanks

Transmission is pretty straightforward, and lightweight, you just need to configure it first..

You could also check how the file allocation/cache is set up in preferences. If it is a large file or you are starting up a previous session/download Deluge needs to check the integrity of the file/files in question. Just a thought.

yeah thats whats going on... its checking file integrity... which means continuing a session leads to my system being unusable for a while... i dont like it :)

not happening with Ktorrent on my laptop though.

taking transmission for a spin now, see how that behaves

transmission is also checking the file very very slowly, but at least it is not hogging the entire CPU so its a definite improvement. bye bye deluge

Yeah, if you continue a download from another client, it will check the integrity of the file just to make sure it does not contain any corrupted data.
