Does not detect Ethernet Cable - Help please

Postby Norgath » Fri Jul 12, 2013 1:53 am

I have just installed Linux Mint 15 64 bit Debian Edition w/ Cinnamon. I have an ethernet hooked into the computer (my internet works just fine in Windows 7). I have no connection in Mint though. When I go into Network Settings, it says "cable unplugged." I have found several solutions, but they were with the use of a wireless card allowing for internet connection. I have no wireless card, so I find myself stranded. Can anybody help? I'm still new to Linux, so I'm sure that I'm probably not giving all the information needed to figure this out, but I'll work as best I can with you guys. What do you need from me? What should I do? Thanks in advance. I appreciate all efforts to help.

Yes, I have the similar problem:

On my stationar PC I installed XP-OK, fine.
Then Linux Mint Olivia/Nadia-xfce I have tried too. It is the same situation.
In Mint I have network connectivity through Ethernet Lan cable. Good. But when I returned to Windows XP it says: The network cable is unpluged!
I have restarted the router and modem. But the only way to get Ethernet LAN connection to my XP is uninstall Mint and again install the drivers to my Motherboard on-board LAN. The Motherboard is ASUS P5LD2-X/1333. Atheros 10/100/maybe 1000 are the LAN drivers.
I really have spend all my yesterday but this is the only desicion for now; I can't really understand why?- When I turn off from Min and power down all components of the PC(router, PC and so on), and the again boot the XP it is the same.
In Event viewer there is an unstandart Warning:
Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address ---- numbers and letters. The IP address being used is ------ numbers. I can't guess why it is apairing. Maybe I don't wait a little from the power off and on?
I have used System Restore and reisnstalling the drivers, when I in the previos session used Mint, but it does't help. I have not succeseded with the help from Microsoft too.
Any other possibilities?

Thank you for the ideas,

Return to “Ethernet”
