Not sure about Mint, but I know you can put Ubuntu on it:

I bought one recently and really like it. Might wait and give Chrome OS a shot to see how you like it. Simple OS but good on the battery and if you have another machine for heavy lifting you might find Chrome OS does most everything else, that is my experience.

Maybe by making the read-only BIOS into a read-write BIOS.....or replacing it completely with Coreboot could it done...... on an Acer C7 Chromebook..

Rover have you read these two texts?

http://liliputing.com/2012/11/how-to-in ... ebook.html
and
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/12/ ... hromebook/

That allow you to enter developer mode and that allows you to boot from USB?
I have not read the texts because I am a true noob. i fail to get out of noob level
I drown in such technical texts and fail to remember all the details.

It seems to say that the hardware is so different that it maybe need special versions
of linux for to boot why else would they need a special version of Ubuntu

I got curious and started to read up on it.
wow much more difficult than I ever though.

Here is good advice?
http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/dev ... chromebook

They warn that it is easy to do something wrong if one try to open the machine.
So to start using the Ubuntu CroUbuntu seems to be a good start to learn how them do it first.
One important detail is that one can restall the recovery if it hangs by taking out the battery and
let the machine rest long enough to allow for a restart that do the recovery properly.

Another thing is that if one put it in Developer mode for to boot from USB then
one have to restore it to standard default if one want to boot Chrome the usual way
but Chrome does work in Dev mode too so maybe such is only needed if others
in Family want to access it in a way them used to.

It says that you lose your files if you go into Dev mode so that is important to do back up on first.

I want to buy this computer now coming Sunday the 15April2013 because it is
the cheapest where I live in Sweden. But if it can only boot Ubuntu then
I am not interested. Linux Minti would be good to boot. Both the ubuntu version
but even better the LXDE version LMDE? Debian version being light or lite

But me not having the knowledge I feel unsure what to do.

Hope you are motivated to ask the Ubuntu people if their special version
can allow one to boot LMDE too by keeping the needed hardware files
but changing Ubuntu files to LMDE files instead?

Here is a LinuxMint on ChromeBook description.
http://www.chromestory.com/2013/02/how- ... #more-8048
How To Install LinuxMint on Your Chromebook Pixel

That is a more expensive version of Chromebook the one I want to buy is a
cheaper version. But maybe that one are compatible with this way of booting it?

Seems that I am alone to want to use LMDE or LM on that computer.
I only have a Car Driver each 14 days so tomorrow is the big day.

Shall I buy it and it will not word due to some hardware quirks of the CromeBook?
or should I trust that that will be fixed within some months or so?
Any suggestions?

You might want to check with the Google Groups Chromebook group. Maybe someone knows of Mint running on that computer there. I don't think it is an issue of no one wanting Mint on that Chromebook, it's just that no one has done it yet, at least not that I know of. In time I suspect it will happen, Chromebooks are just starting to gain traction.

KBD47 thanks

yes maybe that would work better. I give it a try.
Only three hours to my travel
so I maybe will not manage to get the info today
have a lot of packing to do for the travel.
So I need to buy it next fortnight when I have a Driver.
but then it cost me 200USD more they have a special intro price this week.

Thanks rover very good find that one.
Haha had I known about it yesterday at the shop
then I would most likely had bought it but I get a driver
only next fortnight and then they have sold out the Chromebook.
I can maybe buy it online and them send it by Delivery service.

But I don't find it likely me can follow all those instructions and get what them say.

Could you do it? I am running Ubuntu 13.04 32bit now, but it has several issues, I think Mint Mate would work much better on the C7.

It seems there should be an easy way to do this. I mostly lost interest after nearly bricking my Acer C7. I tried partitioning and doing a full install of Chrubuntu, but it locked up my machine. It installed correctly, booted the first time into Ubuntu 12.04, but upon reboot it would only boot into ChromeOS, and when I tried to boot into Chrubuntu it froze every time on restart. I thought it was toast. Finally I pulled the battery, got back into developer mode, and completely reinstalled ChromeOS from a usb stick.
People seem to be having better luck with Crouton. But unless I find a more straightforward way to install Linux, I'm probably done experimenting. I'd like Mint LMDE or Mint Xfce or even straight Debian. I will watch and wait at this point.
