When I first saw Linux Mint I admit calling it Linux Mint seemed odd but I think with how short the name is calling it just Mint seems odd seeing as most other distros have longer and odder names: Ubuntu, Slackware, Mandriva, etc Mint seems a bit too small and normal for some reason though Linux Mint sounds fine.
I don't know. When I first came across the project, I thought it was a little strange putting the “Linux” first, but after a while I got to like the name even if the 'linux' half sounds a little too techy for my liking.
What about renaming it to 'Open Mint' or similar? I have an open mind and I use Open Mint.
I LOVE MintOS as a name, though. Seriously.
Maybe we could rename the KDE and GNOME variants 'Peppermint' and 'Spearmint' too?
Just a suggestion, of course.
The spearmint and peppermint is a neat idea, but I was just on puppy forums, and I hate how they relate everything to dogs. I honestly like mint gum, but maybe would be sick of it soon.
BTW I'm not bashing the puppy forums. They're really nice
clem wrote:There are pros and cons on both sides of the debate. Mint is a lot of thing, Linux Mint uniquely identifies our project. I also disagree with the statement that "Linux" is scary, IMHO it sounds good to people who know about it and raises curiosity to others. As for Windows, ok it's not DOS Windows, but "Microsoft" Windows... so how about that for a scary part?!

the words "microsoft windows" do indeed scare the hell out of me. as far as the word linux scaring anyone else, im not so sure. as clem said, i think it raises curiosity from alot of people. especially people who have never heard of it. i think the only people who would be afraid are diehard windows users who are somewhat computer savvy and already have some pre-concieved notions of linux. every time i mention linux to one of my customers, they are like, "what's that?" after i explain, they are definitely not afraid. most of them want it, and i have done more than a few installs of linux for them.

I was thinking about it, is from Osho, then I realized You have a Picture of Osho, hihihi. Very nice!
