Hi all.
I just registered and thought I should Introduce myself. I have been playing with Linux for a few years off and on, trying to find a viable alternative to Windows. I found it hard to use and put it aside time & time again. With the state of the internet today M$ is worthless. So I did a full install of slax about a month or so ago & started learning it. I love slax but adding software after install sucks as it was meant to be a live distro. Then Mint walks into my life & its love at first click. Windows was just a phase I was going through for 16 years or so. I am an airbrush artist and use a plotter to cut stencils & can't find an app to do it in Linux so I keep a small win partition for that, but can't Imagen using M$ by choice. I tried to post pics of both my Mint and Win desktops but I don't think they took.

Ah, the traditional Windows desktop screen. I have not seen that in ages. I have not missed it, either. Welcome to Mint!

Toxic,

Welcome sir. Very nice Mint desktop. I have zero talent, so I wouldn't be the one to advise you on the software you need. We do however have a rather large number of very talented people on this forum that may be able to help you.

Try posting in the Art section, These guys are not only talented but very willing to be helpful and supportive.

Enjoy your stay.

Fred

PS: The sarcasm with the Windows desktop didn't go unnoticed. :-)

Have you tried to see if that Windows program you need will run under Wine? If you haven't heard of Wine yet it's a Windows compatibility layer that allows some Windows programs to run in Linux. It's hit or miss, but worth a shot.

Hay ppl, Thanks for making me feel welcome.

Lantesh : yes I tried Wine & no go. Maybe I will try Wine Doors and see if that helps. But until then I just keep the NIC card disabled in xp.
