Broadcom 43b1 Gigabit WiFi not supported

Postby CliveMcCarthy » Mon Jul 29, 2013 1:48 pm

I have a new Asus G750JW running Mint15 with Mate.

I spent a frustrating day trying to get the WiFi to work. I'm posting this so that others don't waste their time... The Broadcom 43b1 WiFi chip does not have a Linux driver in the repositories. If you go to the Mint Driver Manager you will see that the bcmwl-kernel-source is disabled -- don't enable it.

This handy list show that the 43b1 is not supported:
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_chipset.php?chipset=Broadcom
and that it is a known issue:

It worked perfectly! Thanks.

The 32 bit version is named: http://people.canonical.com/~ypwong/dri ... _95.tar.gz with just the "_64" deleted. For non vim users gedit or pluma should be used: vim dkms.conf OR gedit dkms.conf

At last this machine has native WiFi.

I got it working using Debian Wiki instructions:
