THE MUSIC DEBATE

Post by npap »

Hello old timers and lovers of real Melody. :)
I am sure that older people will appreciate old time music more than the younger generation. After all, music is a subjective matter and it touches the hearts of those people who have related it to past life experiences.
So here is a link for you who are interested to go back a few years and relive your youthful years :D .
Without a past there is no future/

WHO IS ELYSSA?

Post by npap »

Well! Since Linux Mint has an affinity to mythology the question is: is this who Elyssa is?

Or maybe a somewhat more attractive female as this Elyssa?

Who would you vote for?

AN ODE TO ELYSSA

Post by npap »

ELYSSA

Welcome Elyssa, our sweetest dream
Another wonder, another scheme
I'm falling in love with you already
Can't seem to go with someone steady

Daryna will be jealous I fear
All women are fickle my dear
They're all sweet, and always smart
Leaving behind a broken heart

My love, I'm full of sadness
Can't stand this frenzy madness
As soon as I fall in love with you
Another lady I'll have to woo

She was in Herbie Goes Bananas and everything.

(She's the one on the right in glasses, by the way)
What an important rôle!

...

I think we're all agreed, the cool statue should have our vote.

Deadgy I agree with Zwopper,

Ken&Npap,

you guys misunderstand!!!!!

Zwopper designed the wallpaper I'm using!!!!!!!

ALL credit goes to Zwopper

I merely advertise his excellent work :D

I've never been too artistic myself, hence the reason I'd rather
find great artwork made by people like Zwopper, rather than attempt
to make it myself. basically, at art I suck :|

<edit>or were you guy's posts sarcasm that went over my head :?:

THE MUSIC DEBATE

Post by npap »

Coming back to the subject of music, I have been thinking:
What is music, really?

WIKIPEDIA on music:
Greek philosophers and Ancient Indians defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies, and vertically as harmonies. Music theory, within this realm, is studied with the presupposition that music is orderly and often pleasant to hear. However, in the 20th century, composers challenged the notion that music had to be pleasant by creating music that explored harsher, darker timbres. The existence of some modern-day music genres such as death metal and grindcore, which enjoy an extensive underground following, indicate that even the harshest sounds can be considered music if the listener is so inclined.

My comment

Many scholars have defined music as a concept that is similar to Mathematics:
That is, it follows certain natural rules that one can find only in Mathematics.
It has also been suspected that music has some therapeutic effects on the human mind and body (and who knows? maybe this applies to the animal kingdom as well).
So, my good friends, why not explore the treasure chest of music that was once favored by a world of Hope. :)

@Deadguy, I was just kidding Zwopper!

@npap, I agree about the early music. Pythagoras's discovery of musical intervals was the beginning of music theory and many also say science. It was required study for the Pythagoreans and they listened to certain types of music before going to bed, which cleansed them of the day's activities, and another type when they woke up that removed their sleepiness. To them, math and music were intertwined. They even developed the "music of the spheres", based on the relationship of the planets.
Using Mint as primary OS since 2006.
