Re: Unofficial Poll: Email Client KDE
well, I voted for thunderbird because that's what I'm using now but,
any of the three would be ok as they are all nice Email clients.........

I've been using them both side by side for a while, Thunderbird has a few things that KMail misses and vice versa, but Kmail's integration into the whole K Desktop makes it a better choice in my opinion.

this is true.
I used Kmail in Cassandra KDE and it works quite well...

I use gmail and I use Thunderbird to back up my gmail. I like Thunderbird because of its cross platform support--like to keep my options open.

Do you run IMAP against Gmail?foggytown wrote:I use gmail and I use Thunderbird to back up my gmail. I like Thunderbird because of its cross platform support--like to keep my options open.
I don't know about Thunderbird, but Kmail has a nice automatic backup function that works great even with IMAP!

Zwopper: I did not know that, thanks for the info...I will definitely check it out.
Ed: I agree with your comment 100%. I would take that sentiment even further and argue for Koffice over Openoffice.

Yes, also for me Kmail is clearly the better choice. And Kmail is lighter than Thunderbird...
P.S.= you have also Claws-Mail... It is also very good!

Re: Unofficial Poll: Email Client KDE
I don't see that it is even a choice. Kmail is a quality KDE program. Of course it should be in a KDE version release. How could you possibly do otherwise?

I completely agree. The integration is nice. I have to use a M$ OS for work and am dreaming of a WIN32 release of KMail...Zwopper wrote:I've been using them both side by side for a while, Thunderbird has a few things that KMail misses and vice versa, but Kmail's integration into the whole K Desktop makes it a better choice in my opinion.
Re: Unofficial Poll: Email Client KDE
I like Evolution because it offers me everything I want in one place, but I'm used to gnome. For KDE a KDE app makes more sense. But does it really? It only makes sense, to me, if Mint5KDE or Mint6KDE is going to be pure KDE. Zero GTK on install. Zip. Nada. Install it yourself. Then a purist approach is necessary, and Kmail is a nobrainer. But if you have to include GTK for something else considered critical to the distro, then there is no reason to NOT include what I think is the superior email client.
But I say superior out of ignorance, because I really haven't tried Kmail much.
Does it support IMAP?
Multiple mail sources and formats?
Evolution's calendar synchs integrates with Google AND with my Palm. Does Kmail?
Evolution synch's with my Palm's todo list.

Re: Unofficial Poll: Email Client KDE
BTW, I'm sold on Kmail now. Rocks. Scrap Evolution. Use kdepim for everything.
