Does Subtitleeditor still crash when opening video file?
Hi
I used to use Subtitleeditor in another linux flavour and I like it.
Today I want to use it in my new Mint-Mate 16 kernel 3.11.0-12, Mate 1.6.1 box.
Version 0.40 crashes like others complain since 2012.
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... or#p713278
I installed ver 0.41.0-1 directly from UbuntuUpdates.org.
I had a look on gstreamermm >= 0.10.6.
I have libgstreamermm ver 0.10.11-ubuntu1
This should work but not when I open a video file it still crashes.
Do you have a fix?
Many thanks

Gnome Subtitles works fine.
Re: Does Subtitleeditor still crash when opening video file?
Yesterday tried for first time and could not open a .sub file. Shortly after crashing the system went down. The second time system survived, but system performance severely affected.
BTW anyone know where manual to be found or explanation on how to use gnome-subtitles?
Also tried to find same package, software manager couldn't find it, only found aegisub, but after install, program proper was missing. Was looking for gnome-subtitler as taken from Internet, but now at long last have correct package name gnome-subtitlesadministrollaattori wrote:Gnome Subtitles works fine.

Re: Does Subtitleeditor still crash when opening video file?
Thanx. Looks good. Will have to download and slow it down.
Re: Does Subtitleeditor still crash when opening video file?
But there is not feature like Waveform in Gnome-subtitle. Now I only use it, it's a way quicker and I can guess the position of the next sentence only looking at the wave. No more use of keypad to enter time, only the mouse.Gnome Subtitles works fine.
This is really a huge improvement.
So I still want to find a fix for Subtitleeditor.
Thanks

Re: Does Subtitleeditor still crash when opening video file?
After not finding gnome-subtitles yesterday, thought would search once more for Jumbler Subtitle Εditor, but with googling as well. Came up with Jubler Subtitle Εditor, yet another web misspelling V. easy to install, just need mplayer and interface not too difficult. Certainly solved my problem to do with downloaded '.sub' file {fr0}{fr1}, which VLC played time displaced. On loading '.sub' file, display showed time intervals, mplayer played perfectly, but now no longer get it as GUI, so could see no visible method of control. Anyway prefer VLC, so saved file as srt which VLC now plays fine.
P.S. Jubler also does wave forms, but not advanced enough to be able to test that straight away.

A possible solution:

This bug is fixed by the new upstream version 0.37.1. It's available in Ubuntu now.
Changed in subtitleeditor (Ubuntu):

Unreliable, annoying
The subtitle editing part works well, but it crashes when loading a video. I've been trying to use it for a few years now and on ALL MY COMPUTERS, on ALL UBUNTU INSTALLATIONS, be they old or fresh it ALWAYS CRASHES (with 1 or 2 exceptions)

SubtitleEdit Installation Procedure Amendment
It appears that package mono-complete does not need to be installed, as the Mono with which Petra Cinammon already comes is sufficient for our purposes. So, just need:
