Compiz-Fusion does not start...[SOLVED]

Post by Cariboo »

Hello all,
With remastersys I backed-up my LinuxMint 7.10 installation.
I re-installed this version on my computer again (after repartitioning the hard drive) and everything works fine except compiz fusion 'Desktop Cube' and 'Rotate Cube'.
I checked the 'Advanced Desktop Effects Settings' and they are set all the same as in the original installation.
The Synaptic Package Manager shows that the 'nvidia glx-new' driver is installed.
The command 'compiz --replace' does not work.
:?: What do I have to do to start compiz fusion?

I think it's:

sudo apt-get replace [program]

but i'd personally do:

sudo apt-get remove [program]
sudo apt-get install [program]

give that a try :P

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it didn't help!
What info should I provide to solve the issue?

hehe, I'm from Saskatchewan, just thought I'd throw that out there :P anyhow, I'm assuming your nvidia supports 3d? What model is it?

Check if xorg.conf is set up with the correct driver, it might be using nv or vesa.

Thank you, Acid_1 and MagnusB,
you pointed exactly to the problem....
It was the wrong driver (nv instead of nvidia) in /etc/X11/xorg.conf!!!
All is running pefect...thanks again...
PS.
I wanted to attach "more-info.txt" (for other people interested in what I had to do)
but I always get the message that the extension txt is not allowed.
Which extensions are allowed for Attachment Uploads?

Assuming you're using Mint, just right click and 'make new document'. Leave the extension (which is nothing, afaik) and type it in, then post it.

I have the file "xorg(copy)" created with text editor and I want to attach it.
Each time I try to upload it as attachment I get the
message (in red): The extension is not allowed (see screenshot).
