audio jack output not working

Post by funnyman »

Hello, I have LMDE installed on lenovo R61 and since december 2013 (no updates installed that time and I don't remember any changes in configuration files made by myself, so only date is any relevant info) my headphone jack output (the green one) is not working. No sound is coming from it. It looks well in pavucontrol - headphones recognized, sound bar showing actual audio signal is moving.
What should I do?
Thank you for any response.

edit 21.1.: Does anyone knows any advice that might or might not be helpful? I would appreciate anything useful; I am forced to use Windows XP every day because of this and I begin thinking about changing distro, which is not what I really want...
Thank you

more information:
microfone jack works fine.
When I plug in headphones into green jack, weird electrical noise (something like very high frequency which is paused for every 5ms, altogether playing for 500ms - not measured, just listened to it many times...) comes out from headphones every time I plug them in when some audio is playing. Then they remain silent. Speakers automatically turn off when I plug headphones in and turn on, when I pull them out. Speakers are running well, no problem with them.

If I haven't Windows XP installed on this computer, I would think that this is hardware problem, but in windows it is ok...

I can't reproduce the problem whatever I did to the configuration. there are two things worth to try.
1. reset pulseaudio by delete .pulse folder on /home/<username>/ and restart.
2. purge pulseaudio and use alsa instead.

There is no .pulse in /home/tom.

I tried second way. Pulseaudio is no more but it doesn't help.
I tried reinstalling alsa but it also didn't help

This is output from HDAAnalyzer, debug tool suggested on alsa website:

Code: Select all

Node 0x03 [Audio Output] wcaps 0x405: Stereo Amp-Out
  Device: name="ID 1984 Analog", type="Audio", device=0
  Control: name="Headphone Playback Volume", index=0, device=0
    ControlAmp: chs=3, dir=1, idx=0, ofs=0
  Amp-Out caps: ofs=0x27, nsteps=0x27, stepsize=0x05, mute=0
  Amp-Out vals: [0x1f 0x1f]
  Converter: stream=0, channel=0
  Power: setting=D0, actual=D0

After several desperate weeks I found out where the problem is. There has to be a bug in recent kernel (3-10-2), I reverted to 3.2.0.4 and it's okay now...
